Irene Peters studied Economics, Philosophy and Government in Germany and the U.S. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from?Clark University, Massachusetts, with a focus on Environmental Economics, Econometrics and Modelling.

From 1985 to 1997 she was at?Tellus Institute for Resource and Environmental Strategies?in Boston, U.S.A. (consulting and policy evaluation in energy, solid waste and transportation planning, Life Cycle Assessment, and energy-economic modelling); 1997 to 2002 at EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute for Aquatic Science) (method development in Microsimulation and Decision Support related to urban water topics); since 2003 Univ.-Professor for?Infrastructure Planning and Economics of Technical Urban Services?at?TUHH?(明升体育 University of Technology), since 2006 HCU (HafenCity University 明升体育). She teaches in Urban Planning and?REAP?(Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning), an interdisciplinary international M.Sc. Programme which she founded together with colleagues from architecture and engineering.?

Her work in advisory committees includes "System Integration for Novel Sanitation Systems" of DWA (German Association for Urban Water, Wastewater and Waste Management), "Sustainable Infrastructure Systems" of ARL (Academy for Spatial Planning), "Climate Protection and Energy" of IBA (International Building Exhibtion) 明升体育, "明升体育: Environment Capital Europe" and the scientific advisory committee of IWU (Institute for Housing and Environment, Darmstadt, Germany) and the award committee of the IFBHH (明升体育 Investment and Development Bank).
